Calix has arrived!

Well, Calix is safe and sound in his new home. I got him last night, and miracles of miracles, he's still alive this morning! I'm so afraid I'm going to kill him. I've held him a couple of times, and he's really cool. He even stopped wiggling this a.m., and just sat in my hand. Very very exciting. I'm going to feed him in a couple of minutes. That ought to be interesting. My snake friend at work has set me up with enough food to feed him for a year, all for about $15. Wish I could say the same for me!!
No, I haven't finished shopping for Christmas, but I have a few days off soon, and will get it done then..
Need to put up some decorations this weekend, too.. Oh, what fun.

Enjoy and happy holidays.. and by all means, Merry Christmas!!!!

My new snake

Hi, and a belated Happy Thanksgiving to you.. I hope you all had a great time with family and friends, and ate lots of turkey!

You are looking at my future pet. I plan to get him in a couple of weeks from a guy here at work, one of our editors, who actually raises snakes in his basement. He has about 200 snakes right now, including this little dude. He is a male, so I am accepting suggestions for names.. Has to be something really exotic, don't you think? Anyway, he's an Albino Honduran Milk Snake, and Rob, the guy at work, says that he'll grow to about 5 feet. I can't wait! I have been talking to Rob a lot lately, about his snakes, and he had some in a couple of weeks ago, that he was mailing to other breeders. They were all babies, and so cute. One was this milk snake. I also thought a Pine Snake would be kinda cool, which I may get later, but he didn't have any of those available. And, he told me NOT to buy any snake at a pet store.(Just like dogs or cats, you are not guaranteed of their breeding or personality.) These milk snakes are not poisonous, though he does look it, doesn't he? And, from what I'm told, they are relatively tame, and easy to handle. So, I'm looking forward to this new addition to my family..
Throughout the years, I've had just about every pet in the book: rabbits, rats, hamsters, gerbils, cats and dogs of course, fish, ferret (never again), but never a snake... Who knows? I've always been curious. I will keep you all updated, of course, on my progress. And yes, I have to feed him baby mice.. I'll have to pretend that doesn't bother me. Maybe I'll get used to it.. You can get a "6-pack" of frozen baby mice from your local Petco Store.
Have you all got your Christmas shopping done?? I have 2 presents. So, wish me luck, and I to you..

Not Meant to Bee

I don't remember if I mentioned this earlier, but I was part of a 3-person spelling bee team, and we competed Wednesday. We got a free dinner, which was sooo good. stuffed shells, awesome bread, and a scrumptious salad with raisins in it. There were also meatballs and a pasta, broccoli chicken dish that was pretty tasty.. Anyway. It was a great start to the night. (Oh, and they had cake for dessert.) There were 5 rounds. We were in Round 3. Each round had about 4 or 5 teams. We got 60 seconds to work on the word, then write it on a wipe board, and place it face down on the table. First couple of words, we were all good with. The next word was rappelled. All 5 teams heard repelled. Yep. All five teams got it wrong. Yes, they gave you the definition, and yes he said it again, and used it in a sentence. Let me tell ya. I never heard any of that. We're being taped for Framingham TV, there's a whole room full of people. Lights were on us, there were microphones, and everything. Very nerve-wracking to say the least.
Anyway, we all got a pass on that one because we all got it wrong. The next word was assiduously. 2 s's. Not 1. 4 of the 5 teams had 1 S. Team 5, had 2 S's. We were disqualifed 45 minutes after the thing started. The good news is that we didn't go down in flames alone. We didn't embarass ourselves too much at all. And THAT is a good night. If we had been the only team to get it wrong, that wouldn't have been good AT ALL... I'd do it again.. It was really fun. Just wish I could spell.

Go outside!

Yes, that's it.. Go OUTSIDE!!! It's a beautiful day, and probably the last for some time to come... It is November after all!!

Do you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? Unbelievable. The older I get, the shorter life becomes. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! I'll be working in the afternoon, but will probably visit my boyfriend and brother, at some point during the day. My boyfriend, Darren, suggested it was too much running around. Heck, running around on Thanksgiving is in my blood. Driven hither and yon during my youth, and as a married couple. I'm just glad I don't have to fly anywhere. THAT would be bad. I actually like to drive, so that's not a problem. Hopefully, there won't be 300,000 other people out there with me!! ha ha..

I'm alive

Hi, world. I know it's been a while since I've been on my blog.. I haven't felt well, plus lots of social obligations..
but.. I'm back...

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving.. I get to work. A newspaper is 24/7, and someone has to type in the obits for Friday's paper. We all take turns here.. The good news is that I don't have to work Christmas. Which is reallly, good. l.o.l. I hope you all have a very nice Thanksgiving. Lots of turkey, gravy, stuffing, creamed onions, and more. When it's all said and done, drop me a line here and share with me how your day was!

Yesterday, I took my grandson, Dylan, and my boyfriend, Darren, to the barn near where I live to feed carrots to the horses. Which we did in fine fashion. Dylan wanted to feed this little, tiny pony, Rascal, I think his name was. So, I had to play decoy with the big horses, (And I'm talking 17 hands here). it was a lot of fun, and everyone had a good time! We also got to help Martha (barn manager) bring in the horses for the night. Dylan had to help, of course, so he had the end of the lead rope, while I took the head. Martha also has sheep and 2 gray bunnies.. It's better than going to the zoo, sometimes!!!! Lots of questions by my little one, which I hope we all answered properly. The best part was when I had 2 horses to lead. I kinda threw the lead rope of one in the general direction of Darren, who was surprised to be leading a horse! He'd only been an observer up till now. He did quite well. I told him, all you have to do is act like you're the boss, and you're all set... I'm very proud of him. Next time, he gets more than 1!!!

Happy trails to all..

Nice weather for????

Ducks, geese, Great Blue Herons, you name it. It's very, very windy right now. Kinda cool to listen to the wind. Steady. Then, a big gust. Again.

I do not need a boat! Awesome.

The BIG GAME is tomorrow. Cannot wait. Just cannot wait. I like to avoid about 90 percent of the media's coverage of this game. But, what I have seen has pumped me up enough. I think we'll win. We are way better than the Colts were LAST year, so I'm not worried. The interesting thing will be how many points the Colts will score. My guess? 42-24. We'll see.

Last week, Nicole, one of the editors where I work, sent out an email to all of us editorial people. The annual Spelling Bee is Nov. 14, and she asked for volunteers.. I emailed her back and said that if there was literally NO ONE else, I would go. Yep. I get to participate in the annual spelling bee. I got a packet, today, of words to study. This is going to be a trip.

Yo

The power went out at my work today. Just flat out, lights out, no warning. There was no sound. Suddenly, all you could hear was one of my co-workers saying "shit...f..k, shit..." No power, no computer, no stories. Not good. It was so funny though, because he was saying what everyone else was thinking... It was late, everyone just wanted to finish up and go home.

Anyway.

I had gone to work yesterday wearning my cowgirl hat, and carrying a horse lead. All day, I asked everyone if they knew where my horse was, in a Southern accent of course. Well, at Darren's, I couldn't stop, so he let me hand out the candy, with my hat and accent. The kids were great. He got about 40 kids. I wouldn't let them have any candy until they answered my question, "Have you seen ma hoss?" ha ha. It was so much fun. Then we watched "Knocked Up". A very funny movie..The best part, in my humble opinion, was when Ryan Seacrest (of American Idol fame), "went off" in the movie.. swearing, yelling, etc... everything you'd think he'd really like to say on Idol, but can't.. It was great... I highly recommend it.

I also recommend everyone buy a boat. It's going to rain like the dickens on Saturday, and we're going to get very, very windy.. So, having a boat when the water begins to rise, is a wise idea.

Double-sided day

There were 2 sides to today. The good side, and the bad side... First, the good side.. The Boston Red Sox were hailed as heroes today. 1/2 million people lined the streets of Boston to catch a glimpse of their beloved team. Papelbon danced, and danced and danced.. I love him.. He's just so pure in his excitement. He's also crazy, but that's another story! Anyway, we got to watch a bit of the parade at lunch today. My work as 4 tv's, so finding one with the parade on was easy. You can't just sit and watch for 2 hours, but it's nice to have it on... It was just so exciting... I'm happy for Red Sox Nation today.

The bad news is that I typed the obituary for my ex-mother-in-law today. She was 88. Even though my husband and I have been divorced for a while, Nana was just special. She was just the sweetest lady. She loved my kids, and my grandkid. Anyway, her funeral is on Thursday. It's just sad that such a sweet person had to go.

Results of the poll

The Poll results are in. And thank you for voting. Six of you voted yes, that the shelter should have given the dog back to the kids. Congratulations! So, if the darn shelter had bothered to ask public opinion, those kids would have their dog back.. Oh well.. There's always next time. Remember, separately, we may only have one voice. But, together, we will be heard!!!

Until then............

Just a quickie

It's Thursday morning, and the Red Sox obliterated the Rockies last night. I went to bed at 13-1, pretty much satisfied that they had the game well in hand. Even though I think we'll win the World Series, I would like some suspense. So, that means we need to lose a game or two. I'd like them to finish up in Boston.. That also means they lose a game or two. And that's okay with me.

On the flip side, which doesn't really make any sense, I hope the Patriots go all the way, without losing any games at all!!! Because of that stupid camera business.. Belicheck is making a statement right now, and I'm all for it. We (my brother and I, who watch the games together every week) could never understand why, up till now, we would only score enough points to win the game, not crush the opponent. And we knew they could.. So, we're getting that this year, and we love it. I also hope the Colts stay undefeated until we get our hands on them. That will "prove" to everyone that we really are the team to beat this year, and the Colts can just walk on back to Indianapolis, and be put out to pasture.. yuck yuck.

I'm in a pool at work, a double suicide pool. This means we all get 2 chances to mess up before we are out.. So far this season, a few have been knocked out already. There are 9 people left with zero strikes, and 4 of them are women. Yes, I'm one, and my friend, Linda, who sits across from me at work, is also strike free. So, I say, GO WOMEN!!! The men just can't stand it, it's pretty funny, actually. They ask me who I picked, then wonder...
sometimes I get questions...."Why did you pick them?" ha. it's awesome....

Anyway, Hope you all are well.. I'm still feeling great about the lack of findings in my latest mammogram. I must be doing something right!!!

GO SOX!!! GO PATS!!!

WOW.

The couch that ate 2 people

Yes, that's right. My new loveseat tried to eat Darren and I the other night. It has a fold out bed, which we carefully folded out. We laid down, 30 seconds later, the back of the sofa came right up off the floor, and tried to "fold us into" the hole left by the bed. yep. funny. We did figure out what we did wrong, but we had all these visions of the Ashland Fire Department, called by a neighbor because our bodies have been stuck in the bed for 4 days, and we're dead now. When the Fire Dept. opens the door, they'll find 4 feet sticking out of the sofa, and a couple of dog legs, too. Cause Roxie and Ghost were laying down with us.. It'll be really humiliating, but we won't care, cause we're both dead.

Went for a long bike ride yesterday with a bunch of people who were supporting the veterans out of Medway. The day was gorgeous, and I actually got to be a blocker!! For the first time!!! That was really cool. And, today, I rode to the hospital for my mammogram, which was entirely negative!!! YEAH!!! Then I took the long way home.. Beautiful day for a bike ride...

Anyway, life is good at the moment....

Riding in the Rain

I rode my bike today. It was sooo warm out this morning, and the sky looked like it does when the sun burns off all the haze later in the day.. HA. Did NOT happen. It rained all day. Was I worried? Nope. It was so warm out, I really didn't care if it rained or not. Just by luck, it had actually stopped raining when it was time for me to go home.. It did start sprinkling half way home, so the bottom of my jeans got wet, but that's it. I drove slow. It was awesome.

There's an organized ride on Sunday, starting in Medway, and yes, I'll be done by the time the NE Patriots hit the field.. GO PATS!

oops, here comes the rain again.

Oh, and I bought a new love seat.. very pretty. looks great. I threw out the old love seat, which Lindsay called that hideous sinking couch. Now it's being ugly down by the road.

Have a nice weekend!

It's late....

And I'm watching the Red Sox game. We're actually winning. So, I can't go to bed now, until it's over. It would be amazing if they won, considering I really didn't think they would. But, I have underestimated these, our Red Sox. It's 5-1 now, and looking good.

I bought a love seat tonight and threw out my old one.. The new one I got from somebody on Craig's List, and it's a bed, too. pretty flowery pattern, and a bed. I'm very happy. And the price was right. So, my son came and helped me with his little Ford Ranger pickup truck. The love seat JUST fit in the bed, and off we went. The old one is out by the road, waiting to be picked up by the DPW. It has served its purpose...

Going to ride my bike tomorrow, going to be 80 degrees. I can't wait. AND, my neighbor called me tonight, and there's a charity ride on Sunday, so I'll do that, too..

On the more serious side.. I would just like to weigh in about Ellen Degeneres, and the puppy adoption. I'm sure you've heard about it. She got a puppy, spent a lot of money to spay it and train it to be around cats. She couldn't keep the dog, so instead of sending it back to the shelter, she found ita really nice home with her hairdresser, who has 2 girls, 11 and 12, I think. Once the shelter found out she had given the dog away, they TOOK BACK THE DOG. and GAVE IT TO ANOTHER FAMILY. Because, in their rule book, small dogs don't go to families with children under 14. Never mind that the kids had this dog for 2 weeks already, and everything was fine. They loved the dog, the dog loved them back.. I'm with Ellen on this. Isn't the goal of a shelter to find a loving home for the animals? This puppy had a new home, very loving, and no one was being hurt by it... I think the shelter lady should have given the puppy back to the hairdresser, and thanked Ellen for finding it a new home. but that's not what happened. I love animals, and I'm all for making sure an animal has a nice home.. not taking them out of a loving home.

That said, I'm going back to the game, it's 7-1 now.. Looks really good.. Have a good day tomorrow my friends.

Greetings!

I decided to take out my bike last night, to fill up the tank, and take a little spin. It was very chilly, but the leaves on the trees are so pretty... Just can't help taking it all in. So, I went to the Hess station down the street. Now, I've been filling motorcycle gas tanks for a long time. I do have to say that the hole on the Harley's tank is very small, and the gas hose BARELY fits. So, keeping all that in mind, I tried to fill my tank last night, using my left hand. BIG mistake. I moved it just a bit, and suddenly, I had gas all over me, my tank, the ground... and no blue wipies in sight. I didn't know what to do with the hose at this point, so I tried to place it on the ground. Well, that didn't work, gas started coming out, so I hung it back up. I ran into the grocery store part of Hess, and asked for wipes. He gave me 2. "I need more than 2!" I ran back to the bike, and wiped off all the gas I could see. Man. Had to start over with my debit card, having already used 88 cents to spill what I did. Using my right hand, much more stable, the tank filled nicely, and I was on my way. The next few days seem to be warm, so on my Harley I ride!!

My first blog entry

Hello there, people. I've created a blog on the Web, called noblesnonsense.blogspot.com

I hope to be creative and write a little from time to time. Tonight is my very first post, and it feels wonderful! I dedicate my new blog to my boyfriend, who has his own blog, and has inspired me to have my own. You'll probably hear about Darren from time to time, as we do a lot of fun things together..

Today, I went to the funeral of my ex-father-in-law. He died of double pneumonia, but was really sick for awhile. All of my children were there, which was wierd. My children, all grown up, attending their grandfather's funeral. It was a small, nice, brief service. About 15 people came. He was in the Navy, so they played Taps, and gave my ex-husband the folded flag. Didn't take long all. Everyone went back to my ex's house to eat lunch, but I returned to work.

My Red Sox are now losing 7-0, so I think I'll go to bed. It's time. See you all later!!!
